P. walailakae, which was discovered in 2002, is newly stated among Periophthalmus. This species is distributed in mangrove swamp along Andaman Sea from south Thailand to the Philippines.
P. walailakae grows very large (above 10 cm) next to P.barbarus in west Africa in Periophthalmus.
The features of appearance are round pelvic fins like P. chrysospilos, and dusky body color with unglossy whitish spots. The pattern of body looks like a pastel shades. The surface of skin is rough like snake.
It is another of features that size-ratio of first dorsal fin to the body is smaller than that of other species of Periophthalmus.
